ELLA JOYCE


She was born Cherron Hoye in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in Detroit, Michigan. After graduating from the Performing Arts Curriculum at Cass Technical High, she attended the Dramatic Arts program at Eastern Michigan University. She has studied with several professional mentors and worked many regional stages across America, and overseas. Her many theater credits include Fences (at the National Black Theater Festival), as well as Medea and the Doll, Steppin' Into Tomorrow; she originated the role of Risa at the Yale world premiere production of Two Trains Running; she originated the role of Tonya in the world premiere production of King Hedley II; she originated the role of Lily Ann Green in Crumbs From the Table of Joy. Other stage plays include Last Street Play (The Mighty Gents); Checkmates; Brothers, Sisters, Husbands & Wives; Don't Get God Started!; Louis & Ophelia; Split Second; Home; Not A single Blade of Grass; Odessa; and Anna Lucasta. She has received numerous awards, nominations, and accolades for her performances in the theater including the New York Audelco, and the NAACP Image Nomination (for theater and television). In addition to landing the co-starring role of Eleanor on FOX TV's "Roc", she has appeared in many films such as New Line Cinema's "Set It Off", Disney's "Selma, Lord Selma":, PBS' "The Old Settler"; BO's "Stranger Inside", Clockin' Green"; "Frozen Hot"; "A Clean Kill", "Bubba Ho-Tep", TLC's award winning video "Waterfalls", as well as many guest appearances on television shows such as "Seinfeld", The Client", Jamie Foxx Show", "Dangerous Minds", Sabrina, The Teenage Witch", and "In the House", to name a few. She has graced the covers of many Black magazine publications including JET, Black Elegance, and Black Masks, and has been written up in Upscale, and TV Times. She is also a proud recipient of the Spirit Of Detroit Award from the Mayor's Office in 1998. Ella also serves as a personal acting coach and consultant, and has serviced many high profile artists (such as the lovely Toni Braxton). Her representation is listed with SAG, AFTRA, and AEA. Ella has also written her first book "Kink Phobia, Journey Through A Black Woman's Hair".
