Standin' Tall
CHARACTER: 5 MALES / 2 FEMALES...
DESCRIPTION: A teen finds the courage to shrink a bully down to size in this powerful "Dramedy". Set in the recreation room of an afterschool program... this teen must find a way to make friends and not enemies. Transferred to a new school by the district, Jamal is on a short leash. He is fortunate to be in the district at all. He survived one attempt by the district to expel him for bashing a kid in the head with a baseball bat. To his good fortune, there were mitigating circumstances. The district has placed him on probation and any fighting for him will result in expulsion from the district.
JAMAL- New kid on the block. He is a transfer from another school in the district. He was involved in a fight with three other teens that left one of them in critical condition.
NOLA- She has taken a liking to Jamal. This doesn't sit well with TJ since he has had a crush o Nola since the 6th grade. She is smart and tough.
SYDNEY- Nola's first cousin. She and Nola are very close and they always stick together.
CRAIG- Likeable but finds his confidence in TJ. He and Craig have been homies since kindergarten. He often manipulates TJ in IAGO like fashion to keep anyone from replacing him as TJ's wingman.
TJ- Big dog on campus, cocky, yet, insecure. He can be manipulated and resorts to Bully tactics in order to feel confident.
WEASEL- Crazy is the best way to describe Weasel. He ain't much of anything except his own man. He don't follow nobody.
FERNANDO- A nice, almost middle class kid. He should probably be in a small, private, Catholic school. Not here where his innocence and kindness are a disadvantage.
PAMELA- She is in love with TJ, who is only using her. A little nerdy, she will blossom by the end of the play.
